Mathematics
The purpose of mathematics at St. Francis of Assisi Primary School is to enable children to develop the mathematical skills necessary to meet the needs and challenges of life in the 21st century.
We aim to provide a curriculum that all children can access in order that they may reach their full potential, in an exciting, broad, and challenging way.
In order to deliver this, we use the Singapore approach to teaching and learning in mathematics, via theMastering Number and White Rose Maths schemes of work
The main aim of the curriculum is to ensure pupils have:
- Fluency: by enabling conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply their knowledge rapidly and accurately to problems.
- Reasoning: pupils are enabled to mathematically follow enquiries- conjecturing, generalizing, justifying and using proof.
- Problem Solving: pupils can solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of routine and non-routine problems.
The Programmes of study centre around:
- Number
- Measurement
- Geometry
- Statistics (data handling)
